The designation of Drive 0 or Drive 1 can be made using the Cable Select Option (CSEL). CSEL Pin 56 +------------------+------------------+ | | | Ground | Open | | | +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ | | | | | | | HOST | | Drive 0 | | Drive 1 | +----+----+ +----+----+ +----+----+ Optional LED | | | |-DASP Pin 62 | +------------------+------------------+ By selectively grounding the input signal CSEL the system manufacturer can select which drive will recognise itself as Drive 0. Linking -DASP (Pin 62) between Drive 0 and 1 will allow Drive 0 to recognise that drive 1 is present. -DASP may optionally be connected to an activity LED for the Host system. LED connection -------------- When a LED is connected on the 68 pin ATA interface (pin 62), an external current limiting resistor is required to be placed in series between pin 62 and the 5V supply. The value of this resistor is dependent on the LED used and is typically 130 Ohms. ********************************************************************** I N S T A L L ********************************************************************** CALLUNA CT-80MC PRODUCT SPECIFICATION 990002 REV. 3 Notes on Installation ===================== Drive mounting -------------- horizontally vertically +-----------------+ +--+ +--+ +------------------+ | | | +-----+ +-----+ | | | x | | | | | | | | x+----------------+x +-+-----------------+-+ | | | | | | ||x x|| +---------------------+ | | | | | | || x x || | | | | | | || x x || x x | | | | | | || x x || +------x------x-------+ | +-----+ +-----+ | || xx || +-+------x--x-------+-+ +--+ +--+ || x x || | xx | || x x || | x x | || x x || +---x--------x----+ |x x| x x x++----------------++x Mounting orientation -------------------- The drive may be mounted in any of three mutually perpendicular axes. At the end of each READ command, the drive will continue to read data into the sector buffer until:- 1. the sector buffer is full or 2. a new command other than READ command is received. If, during this "look ahead" the drive receives a READ command and the requested start block is equal to the start block of the look ahead (i.e. continuation of a sequential read) all available blocks will be transferred directly from the cache buffer. If more blocks are required to complete the transfer the drive will continue to read from disk and the read operation will continue. There will be no rotational latency incurred. At the end of the command, a new look ahead sequence will be initiated. If, during this "look ahead" the drive receives a READ command and the requested start block is not equal to the start block of the look ahead the look ahead will be terminated. The valid blocks currently held in cache will then be examined and if the requested start block has already been read into the cache then all available data will be transferred directly from the cache buffer. If more blocks are re- quired to complete the transfer the drive will continue to read from disk and the read operation will continue as before else the cache pointers will be reset and a new command will be started. ********************************************************************** F E A T U R E S ********************************************************************** CALLUNA CT-80MC PRODUCT SPECIFICATION 990002 REV. 3 Introduction ------------ The CT80MC miniature hard disk drive offers a formatted data storage capacity of 85.06 Mbytes and is designed to operate on the 68 pin ATA and PC CARD-ATA interfaces. The drive is designed with a 10.5mm height for compatibility with a PCMCIA Type III card slot. The drive and controller electronics use WLSI and surface mount technology to allow integration within the 1.8 inch form factor. General ------- The CT80MC hard disk drive is a random access data storage device which uses two 48mm magnetic disks to provide a formatted capacity of 85.06MB. The drive has a fixed physical format of 512 bytes per sector, with up to 44 sectors per track. Features -------- Head/disk assembly (HDA) - 3-phase sensorless spindle motor - High performance rotary voice coil positioner - Fully embedded servo system - 50% thin film heads - Flex circuit with pre-amplifier and write driver - Automatic transit latch - Recirculating air filter - Breather filter Performance - Up to 32Kbyte dual ported FIFO buffer with cacheing and look-ahead - 1,7 RLL coding - 85.06 MB formatted capacity - Emulates IBM task file - Translate mode - 1:1 interleave factor - Data transfer rates up to 4 MBytes per second - "On the fly error correction" - 88 Bit Reed Solomon ECC - Power save Seek Time --------- +----------------------------------+--------+ | | CT80MC | +----------------------------------+--------+ |Track-to-Track msec. typ. | 6 | +----------------------------------+--------+ |Average msec. typ. | 18 | +----------------------------------+--------+ |Full stroke seek msec. typ. | 30.5 | +----------------------------------+--------+ |Command overhead msec. | 0.5 | +----------------------------------+--------+ Magnetic Field -------------- There shall be no source of constant magnetic field which results more than 0.0005 Tesla measured in the location occupied by the magnetic heads when the drive is installed. Defect Handling --------------- A sector skipping technique is used where the logical address of the defective sector and all subsequent sectors are advanced by one sector. This skipping effect continues until a further defect is encountered or the logical end is reached and spare sectors are used to complete the specified disk capacity. When shipped and after a LOW LEVEL DISK FORMAT has been performed all defects will be skipped. A number of sectors are reserved for the purpose of mapping out disk defects. All disk defects found during manufacturing are stored in a Manufacturing Defect List. This list is maintained by the drive and store on reserved sectors on the disk.
